For an architect, the satisfaction of seeing an idea attain physical manifestation is unparalleled. Unfortunately, not all ideas provide this comfort. Several uncontrollable, unfathomable uncertainties obstruct the successful completion of projects. Every architectural studio has a multitude of such unfinished symphonies that they are extremely proud of, and their tectonic absence can be profoundly frustrating.
unBuilt invites these archived files, shelved models and incomplete transmittals – seeking to celebrate works that might have been admirable additions to the urbanscapes and rural fabrics of the country had they materialized.

UNBuilt.in is an architectural portfolio competition. We invite architects to submit their projects which, should have but, could not see the light of day. Projects shall be submitted as per the protocols of the Submission Guidelines. The Jury will comprise of prominent professionals in the field of Architecture. In addition, the endeavor is aptly supported by our list of advisors, who shall curate the environment of the competition (thought pieces, graphics, conversations, events), provide judgment criterion and ensure the systems transparency. These shall be field experts as well.
The projects that go beyond concept development, and in many cases even have municipal approvals and GFCs, but fail to proceed owing to finance paucity, land litigation, change in design brief / client requirements or disputes between involved parties. unBuilt projects would have a real client, real site, real and reasonable design brief. It is not a hypothetical project nor an academic project.
